I've got a server with RHEL 6.0 installed as a 'Virtual Host', with no GUI. I try to install Fedora 14 as guest as follows:
Creating domain... | 0 B 00:00
Connected to domain FE
Escape character is ^]
OK, doesn't work that way... My next try was to install X-windows and Gnome desktop onto hypervisor host - just to check it works at all. It worked with --nographics option changed to --vnc, both on the same host and when connected from laptop with Fedora GUI over ssh (ssh -X email@example.com). OK, so it is about video output, that gets 'lost in translation' somewhere. My next try was RHEL 6.0 with no GUI (as in the beginning), but this time over ssh from GUI-enabled laptop over ssh -X firstname.lastname@example.org. Nope, same output as initially.
So, my question is: How to install a guest from distribution DVD image on a KVM bare-metal hypervisor machine, if the hypervisor machine doesn't provide any graphical interface, just plain command line? There's a post on this very forum at
but it suggests modifications to a guest machine that is already installed, which doesn't seem to be my case. I'm obviously missing something simple. What is it?
Thanks in advance.
